Here's a copy of a Radiogram I use to submit my net report to K3CSX for BTN nets when I am NCS. The same thing will work for ARES nets. Format is not cast in stone, but works for me. You can modify to suit your preferences. You can email or message the net manager on the air. Email for ARES is fine. On the traffic nets, we formally message net reports for the experience and to collect points towards Public Service Honor Roll: http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/pshr Note you can add anything you think pertinent. A courtesy for a new member checking in is to list their call, name and location, i.e. KD3XYZ/ESMERELDA/EDGEWOOD. That way the person will become known, the Net Manager /EC can follow up with the new check-in and hopefully they will become active in the group. ----------- (Radiogram Format) NR 12345 R WA3SWS 19 STREET MD FEB 22 K3CSX BTN SUN FEB 20 2330Z QTC/4 IN 34 MINUTES QNS/12 WA3SWS/NCS/MEPN N3OR/ANC/PKT KK3F/MDD KB3JDE N3QXX KB3LFG KB3KAI KB3KWT WA3WRT WA1QAA K3CSX AC3P X 73 STEVE WA3SWS ------------ Note above is 5 words per line, as would be in a formal Radiogram. Even if emailing, it is good to stick to this format, as it may be copied into a Radiogram later. Long words like WA3SWS/NCS/MEPN are counted as one word (meaning I was NCS and liaison from MEPN). This would be spoken as: "Mixed group (meaning not pure amateur calls but something different) Whiskey Alpha Three Sierra Whiskey Sierra Stroke November Charlie Sierra Stroke Mike Echo Papa November, November Three Oscar Romeo Stroke Alpha November Charlie Stroke Papa Kilo Tango ... Then just "Amateur Calls" for stations who don't have a /suffix, followed by the remainder of the checkins. etc. QTC means number of pieces of traffic passed. QNS means number of stations checking in. This is a rare use of Q signals on voice. Generally Q signals are discouraged on voice. You simply say what you mean. However, here, in the interests of brevity and efficiency, they are used. Don't take wrong examples from this. If there were to be an emergency net, you would further break down the QTC to indicate the number of messages passed by priority. Since we virtually never handle a message other than routine, routine is assumed for all QTCs listed unless otherwise specified. Normal procedure calls for a net report to be submitted to the net manager, at this time in ARES this being the EC WB0EGR@arrl.net, within 48 hours. Please copy WA3SWS as a courtesy, Steve@swssec.com. If RACES net, to WA3SWS only. Holler if questions. Steve WA3SWS
