RACES - Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service

Under guidance of FEMA, the RACES organization is sponsored by government on the state and local level. With this responsibility comes a requirement of demonstrated communicator skills and operator proficiency. See the RACES page for more information including training requirements.

ARES - Amateur Radio Emergency Service

ARES is sponsored by the ARRL. Members volunteer to assist public service agencies during emergencies and other events. Any licensed Amateur Radio operator is eligible, membership in the ARRL is not required. See the ARES page for more information including training requirements.

SKYWARN - Severe Weather Observation and Reporting

SKYWARN is a National Weather Service (NWS) program of trained volunteer severe weather spotters. Members provide the NWS with timely and accurate severe weather reports. See the SKYWARN page for more information including training requirements.
